During the festival, the monks performed masked dances along with a grand carnival celebration. The dance ritual is performed to celebrate triumph of virtue over the demons. The Mani Rimdu Festival with Everest Base Camp Trek commences with a scenic mountain flight to Lukla. Once in Lukla, the trek begins along the Dudh Koshi River trail towards the mountain villages of Phakding and Namche Bazaar before arriving at Tengboche. The path out there follows the ever-changing landscapes, passing by the Sagarmatha National Park, a major UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tengboche is popular for the celebration of the Mani Rimdu festival in Tengboche Monastery. Apart from Tengboche, this festival is celebrated at Thame Monastery of Khumbu region and Chiwong Monastery of Solu region of Eastern Nepal.
