Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal exhibiting temples, stupas and durbar squares contribute to the historical and religious significance of the country.

This one day sightseeing tour takes you to the four major UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu: Pasupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swoyambhunath Stupa. Up early, our tour guide will pick you up from the hotel. Then, you’ll begin your trek by visiting Pasupatinath Temple, the holiest temple of Hindus all around the globe. In this sacred site, you’ll find Hindu devotees worshipping in the temple and ascetics in their colorful attires posing for photographs. The temple lies on the bank of Holi Bagmati River where you can spot Hindu funerals activities.

Our next visit is Boudhanath Stupa, the largest stupa of Nepal. This important pilgrimage site of Tibetan Buddhism attracts thousands of visitors every day. The beautiful semi circular white dome shaped structure has a towering spire on the top and surrounded with prayer flags offering spectacular views for the visitors. Apart from experiencing the peace and tranquility of this place, you will explore the local markets where you can buy Buddhist essentials, Thangka paintings and souvenirs.

Thereafter, you head to Kathmandu Durbar Square where you can explore the rich architecture and carvings work of the medieval period, particularly 15th to 18th century. Located at the heart of Kathmandu city, the durbar square is home to several temples, monasteries, monuments, museums and palaces. On the south of durbar square, you can pay a visit to old freak street which is one of the major tourist attractions during the hippie trail of the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Later, your tour continues to Swoyambhunath Stupa, one of the most important sacred shrines of Buddhists. The white dome towering the sky along with glittering golden spire on the top offers an incredible feeling of peace and adoration among visitors. Here, you can behold the sights of temples, chaityas, statues and monuments around the stupa that represents the rich religious and cultural life of the Nepalese people. Afterwards, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal. Our airport representative will pick you up from Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to the hotel room. Have some rest and recover from jetlag. In the evening, you can stroll around popular tourist hub – Thamel where you can do sightseeing and many more activities. There are shops, handicrafts, thangka paintings, souvenirs, bars, pub, bakery, hotels and many more to explore there. Enjoy your first night in vibrant Kathmandu.

Day 2
Guided Sightseeing around heritage sites of Kathmandu

Kathmandu, the administrative center of Nepal showcases the rich architecture of the medieval period. There are popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, mainly temples and stupas that offer a lot of opportunities for exploration to visitors. Besides the heritage sites, you can get insight into the social and economic lifestyle of people living in the urban centers. Today, we begin our sightseeing tour by visiting the major heritage sites of Kathmandu.

Pasupatinath Temple

Pasupatinath Temple is one of the sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. This major UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Nepal attracts thousands of devotees all around the world. This temple is built in pagoda style and rich in its architectural design. The two level roofs of the temple are covered with golden and copper sheets while the four doors are carved with silver. There is a bronze statue of a bull (Nandi) in front of the west door. There is a cremation ghats on the holy Bagmati River where the final rituals of Hindus are performed. Here, you can spot many shops, temples, forests, ashrams of Hindu ascetics and visitors around the temple complex.

Boudhanath

Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world. This iconic stupa dedicated to Tibetan Buddhism attracts pilgrims from all around the globe. The 36 m high stupa is surrounded by several monasteries and decorated with prayer flags and prayer wheels for circumambulations. The stupa is built in a mandala style whereas the top is square shaped consisting Buddha eyes on all four sides. It is said that the Tibetan merchants used to stop by along the trading route and pray at Boudhanath Stupa for many centuries. There are wonderful spots for shopping handicrafts, Thangka painting and Buddhist accessories around the complex. Here, you can spot many eateries where you can taste Tibetan foods while enjoying breathtaking views of the stupa.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square including several temples, courtyards, museums, old royal palace exhibits the prominent arts and architecture of ancient Nepal. This place is also known as Basantapur Durbar Square or Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square where you can spot the statue of Hanuman at the palace entrance. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a social and religious gathering spot for celebrating festivals and important events. Though the 2015 earthquake causes massive destruction of the durbar square, most of the buildings are in the construction phase. Here, you can pay a visit to Kumari Ghar, Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Taleju Temple and many more temples dedicated to Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Likewise, you can simply relax at the local cafe and enjoy the movement of people and activities around the durbar square.

Swayambhunath Stupa

Our next stop is Swayambhunath Stupa. Located on the hilltop dominating the skyline, this iconic stupa is the holiest pilgrimage site of both Buddhist and Hindus. According to legends, it is a “self created” stupa that dates back over 2000 years. At that time, the Kathmandu Valley was filled with a large lake and a lotus flower in the center of the lake. A bodhisattva named Manjshri cut the hill at Chobhar with his sword and drained the lake, and then the lotus flower transformed into the stupa. Here, you can experience the peaceful vibe and enjoy the commanding views of Kathmandu Valley. Be aware of monkeys as they roam freely around the complex and may steal your food.

Day 3
Final Departure

Our Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour concludes today. Our airport representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. Namaste and have a safe journey.
