Overview
Gokyo Valley Trek 12 days takes you to the pristine Gokyo Valley, surrounded by six major lakes, some of the highest freshwater lakes in the world lying at an elevation of 4,700 m – 5,000 m.
Gokyo Valley Trek starts with a scenic flight to Lukla, the gateway of the Everest region. Walking along the Everest trail, passing through quaint Sherpa villages, you’ll hike through lush coniferous forests and ever-changing landscapes.
The journey follows the Everest Base Camp route up to Sanasa, near Kyangjuma, and then turns west towards Mong La Pass to end with distant views of the scenic Gokyo Valley. The endpoint at Gokyo lakes in Gokyo Valley is a paradise of turquoise blue waters in the abode of the Himalayas.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can summit Gokyo Ri (5,483 m), from where you can revel in the breathtaking views of the world’s highest peak above 8,000 m, including the famous Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu. Another major attraction is Ngozumpa Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the Khumbu region.
This spectacular multi-day hike is less crowded than the popular Everest Base Camp Trek, but it’s worthwhile with its extensive mountain views and the most scenic route. What’s more, you’ll enjoy the local dishes and warm hospitality of native Sherpas during your overnight stay at teahouses.
